my husband (non-jw) just called me from work, seems 2 people walked into his workplace, walks up to him and says, "can you put these in your coffee room?

" at the same time shoving 2 mags upside down into his hand.

he was busy, says, "sure" (thinking nothing of it).

when the jws come to your door act all interested and take the mags and then looked surprised and say "oh wait..i don't accept cult material, thanks anway".

Imagine the look on their faces. Maybe they'll make me a 'do not call' after that, since they haven't figured out an apsota's in the neighborhood yet.

Is it just me or the dubs look pitiful going from house to house now? Funny, I hadn't noticed how slow they walk until now. One step, (20 seconds) step two (20 seconds) you get a lot more time in that way.

20 years ago..a talk concerning field service..sisters crying..eyes opened

well i can't recall now which public talks it was - one of my first - and it dealt with field service / preaching.

so i thought i would interview several people in the congregation about service and their thoughts and feelings on the subject, expecting something very different than what i got.

to my shock (i was an over zealous young buck who thought the sun rose and set on the wt) three sisters burst into tears as they told about their feelings of inadequacy and guilt over field service.

I put a ring of incense around my kids, they think it's cool too.

I burn incense almost every day. I found a cool store in a local mall run by a man from the mid-east (don't know where from yet, India seems likely). He's so very friendly.

Now to the topic I used to love field service when I first started out, and for perhaps 7 or 8 years after. But that's probably because I liked the social aspects of it. I loved talking with the sisters in the car groups, that is until I seemed to get on the 'outs' of the inner circle. I find people fascinating and love hearing differing opions and such. I was very good at the doors though, always able to make placements and get people to agree to an RV. People told me that I wasn't pushy like most witlesses they knew . I was very charming.

Once it became a drag to me I didn't know WTF to do but tredge on. Why don't they just people do what the hell they want to do? As much as I love the forum, sometimes I hate it when these old emotions come up. Has anyone done a thread on witnessing on the holidays? I HATED THAT!!!!!

The Pain & Devastation of Learning the Truth about "the Truth"

a while back i posted my experience about running into an old jw friend who revealed to me he had left the "borg" and told me all about why he had.

today he e-mailed me something he had written and i want to share it for the sake of those who are going thru something similar.

i think it helps to know that we're not alone in our turmoil.

It's so sad to hear of the pain and devastation inflicted on individuals by this destructive and deceitful cult group. We are all in the throws of healing - it's impossible for those who've not gone thru it to understand how difficult a process this is, and how long the affects of being a witness linger in the hearts and minds of former members. MM, Let your friend know that we are here to help - as we have received help by sharing our experiences.

Apostates and dubs in the same restaurant!!!!

a small group of us who grew up together try and get together every few months.

we went to this mexican restaurant and there was a group of witnesses there.. the tension was so thick.

one of the guys there saw 2 elders who served on his jc.

I am sure people at other tables picked up on things as did the server. They'll be less likely to listen next time the Dubs come knocking!

I'm more interested in the Bible now that I believe it isn't inspired (?!)

i downloaded a ton of 'the teaching company' lectures on the formation of christianity and the gnostics, and have been reading books on the creation of the bible for the past six months or so.

if you havent looked into this stuff already, i'm telling ya it is some really facinating stuff.

are you at all like me and have become more interested in the bible since realizing it isn't inspired??

the only problem i have with "bible believers" is that they often imply that its only through some defect that everyone doesn't believe.

Same as the dubs. If you don't believe as they do then there's something wrong with YOU.

The JWs worst aspects for you are?

which jw doctrines, collective personality traits and general history do you find to be the most destructive or disagreeable?

i personally found the doctrine of the other sheep which makes the christ inaccesible to most jws, the devilishly complicated moral code, and the hideously totalitarian behaviour of their leadership to be the worst things on a long list that i've prepared regarding what's unacceptable to me in that society.

i remember when i was arguing with the elders about the fds and their claim to total spiritual supremacy and they were telling me that the idea of democracy departs completely from their way of thinking, here they have a theocracy and that even "talking about the right things at the wrong time" is basically a crime in other words sit and wait for the fds to reveal it at the so called right time, and i should accept things as they are and not as i want them to be otherwise i get thrown out.

just a way to stop you telling your loved ones what you found out when you left.

The gossip and the cover-ups when ones like Ray Franz (and many, most or all of us) leave the org; alienating of friends and family, total life control, demonizing people who disagree with the belief system.

I did eventually wise up and keep them out of my business. I remember one couple who went and talked to the elders about their sexual positions. The sister was very, very pregnant and they asked if it was alright for them to do it 'doggy style'. The elders (one of them was in his late 70's) told them that Jehovah created us to do it missionary style. I ALMOST cussed when I heard that. I told the couple it was no body's business how they 'did it' ... that was too much for me.

There are some things I did against the 'org that I didn't bother telling ... going to church for a funeral and other 'association' things.

here here a christian, i think we all know that from most of the replies people get from there postings, SAD that all of these people are so lost. but here's hoping

Read the title of this thread ... if you believe that the bible is inspired that's good for you. Not everyone believes as you do - not because of hardheartedness but due to acquired knowledge outside of the bible itself among many, many other things. There is a whole universe we know nothing about and the bible does not spell that out for us. It is for us humans to learn throughout our lifetimes about ourselves and the world around us. Again, if you believe that the bible is the only source you need to guide you in this life then so be it. Others of us are open to learning, comparing, experiencing, and drawing conclusions based on critical thinking. Many on this board have been to college since leaving the org. - opened up a whole new world for me.

I used to believe because I was taught to believe ... now I will believe what I choose to and TRULY do believe in. If I were born in a Muslim family I would probably believe in Allah and the Koran ... etc. I cannot say that I believe that the bible is the inspired word of an almighty God. But my experience tells me that there is God within me.
